Alpha – Jasinda Wilder

The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom’s hospital bills. My baby brother’s tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just “VRI Inc.,” and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing…except a single word, on the notes line: “You.” Just those three letters.

If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?

I did.

The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: “belong.”

A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. “To me.”

The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom’s hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you’re desperate? You don’t. I didn’t.

And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: “It’s time to pay your debt.”

Would you have gotten in?

I did.

It turns out $120,000 doesn’t come free.

Well!  I don’t know where to start.  How about I give this a solid 3.5 out of 5.
I am going to try and keep this spoiler free.  Okay, well not that *spoiler* free, there are spoilers… here’s a massive reveal for you, if you would even consider it one.  Last warning.

***Spoiler***

This book, is fucking filthy.  I don’t recall reading anything of late that contained entire chapters entirely devoted to dirty, lewd, bawdy sex.  And I am not complaining.  This was the kind of book where I had to make sure that I wasn’t surrounded by people who may see what was written on the pages.  Not because I was concerned that they would know the type of book that I was reading, but because of the abundant usage of the words like; cock, pussy, fuck etc on a single page.  Now don’t get me wrong, I love it.  But even I, lover of filthy and dirty hot sex, was a little thrown at the amount of pages it took to get through one scene.

They weren’t bad written, actually Ms Wilder, certainly knows how to paint a scene.  It was just, how do I say this?  I know it’s fiction, but there are those of us out there in the reading community that like a sense of reality in some of the things that we read.  Could a billionaire possibly fall in love with me?  Why not?  I’m just as awesome as these women that I read about.  And sure what man wouldn’t want me to be satisfied, fuck his needs, it’s all about me.  But here, in Alpha? I don’t know.  The abundance of orgasms is quite jarring.  Maybe I’m just jealous, maybe I have no sense of reality. I know that multiple orgasms aren’t a myth.  I know they exist, but in this world.  They don’t just exist.  It’s the only thing we know.  It’s all we ever know.  And for that I call shenanigans!

Those rolling chapters of sex on top of sex, on top of more sex, just, I can’t believe that I am going to say this, was unnecessary.  Yes, I said, it was TOO MUCH SEX.  I wanted to get back to the story.  Which by the way could have been really good!  Had it not been for the massive amounts of sex that took place right plod in the middle of the book.

I specifically remember picking up this book, because I thought that it would have an interesting plot.  For the most part it does.  It’s not unfortunately pretty predictable.  I don’t know I was hoping for something a little edgier, maybe something darker.  I don’t feel like the story ended and I found out this morning that there is supposed to be another book in the series;  BETA, although there are no editor notes on the goodreads page.  It definitely needs something to round the story out.

Like I said the writing is good.  And the overall thread of the story is played out. I liked both of the leading characters in the book.  She seems to know what she wants.  Until she doesn’t. Typical.  And he, well, he’s an Alpha, of course he knows what he wants.  He knows just how to take too.  If you like a potty mouth (I love them) Mr. Roth is your man.  If you need a small glimpse into the kind of man he is, I give you this

I’m your fucking god, Kyrie?

No matter the mans flaws, he is still pretty great.  Or maybe it was his crude tongue.  I don’t know.

The only thing that annoyed the crap out of me was the incessant use of “…” like I need the pause.

So if you want a steamy read, this is definitely the book for you.  Get it over at Amazon for $5.99 (Kindle).  Admittedly, I do think this is a little pricy for what you’re getting.  Unless you really like dirty, book porn.  Then you’re fine, totally worth the money!  Especially around Chapter 11.  Yep.  Check that shit out.  I’m still thinking about it.
