Red & Wolfe: (Erotic Retelling) Part 4 – Ella James

Red & Wolfe Part 4: An Erotic Fairy Tale – [kindle edition] $2.99

Return to Rabbit Island for the heart-pounding conclusion to Red and Wolfe’s story.

Don’t forget your extra panties – but this time, you might also want to bring your gun.

*Contains spoiler-ish type detail*

Okay, first of all, best $3 I’ve spent. I mean it!

Secondly; I love James Wolfe, I wish he was real. I wish I was Red and I was stuck on Rabbit Island, doing what rabbit’s do. This was such a good ending to the series. I was a little nervous about how it was going to end, but I was far from disappointed.

So let’s start here, I am strong advocate of a filthy mouthed alpha male character, James Wolfe aka Race embodies that to the core. Every time he said anything to Red, I was having a panty melting moment. He is up there as my number one (okay top 3) book boyfriends.

She has the nerve to look up at me impertinently, the naughty little cunt.

I know a lot of people aren’t fond of the “C” word, but I personally find it rather fabulous. It just sounds so naughty, taboo almost and every time he thought it or said it I would get so giddy, excited even, because everything about his character is exactly that. James Wolfe is deliciously dark, if we ended up knowing nothing about him, I think that I would have been okay with that. I didn’t need to know everything about him, other than he was hungry and desperate for Red.

You’re asking for a thorough fucking, Red. My cock, your pussy. Now

And speaking of Red, have I told you how much I enjoy her? She’s still spunky as ever in book 4. And while the whole owning her submissiveness was still up in the air for me even through the end, I’m just going to believe that she knew that, that was what Wolfe needed from her. I loved that Red had the spunky confidence to go up against Wolfe (sexually). She always challenged him, which I really liked. She wasn’t about to let someone she cared about so deeply just not take notice

I want you, Race. I have no idea why. Maybe I’m crazy. But when I think of leaving right now, I feel like I’d never stop looking back. So you want to fuck me?” I step toward the bedroom and curl my finger at him. “Come fuck me”.

One of the hardest things I struggle with when I read short stories like these is that, well, they’re short. Especially when you’re bringing together characters that you’re getting in this story. It feels like it’s a hard thing to balance the romance with the heat, but Ella James does a really fine job, in this last book. I worried that there would be heat than affection, but it’s the small moments that she throws in that makes it a really sweet love story of sorts

I reach Gertrude’s office last, and there he is—sitting in her rickety old desk chair, sleeping with my picture in his hand, as if he’s waiting just for me

I loved that there was a HEA, one that was believable too, considering the entire story as a whole. Ella has another fairy re-telling coming out sometime in August (Beast) and I am really looking forward to that.

I definitely recommend this story if you like face paced dirty reads it’s worth every penny in my opinion.

Finally Use [Songs of Perdition Book #2] CD Reiss

I don’t know what was going on with Amazon, but CD Reiss’ Use (Songs of Perdition Book #2), was finally released in the Kindle store this evening.  I kid you not when I say I waited all damn day for this book to go live. It’s there now, so if you were waiting; go, go, go!

Use (Songs of Perdition Book 2) – [Kindle Edition] 99¢

I thought of Deacon, my master, the one who had helped me function, and who I had betrayed. Maybe one day I’d remember the sticky web of circumstances that put us both in the stables, but did it matter? In the end, did I stab him to be free of him?

And free to what?
To whore? Snort? Party?
Or free to be normal?

**This ends sequence one**

TRIGGER WARNING
***SPOILER***
Heed this.
This book contains non-consensual sex, presented in a non-erotic way.

I can’t wait to jump back on this rollercoaster. I also found out that part 2, to her book Spin [Songs of Corruption] has a release some time in September.

Red & Wolfe II: An Erotic Fairy Tale – Ella James [kindle edition]

The story continues…

“Return to Rabbit Island for the erotic second installment of Red & Wolfe, the sensual story of exiled playboy James Wolfe and down-and-out writer Sarah “Red” Ryder. This is an erotic fairy tale inspired by Little Red Riding Hood.”

Red & Wolfe, Part II: An Erotic Fairy Tale

I’ve been waiting really impatiently for this book. I mean seriously, I couldn’t wait. Could have sworn it was coming out the one day, turns out I was little early. Actually had a sense of relief when it showed up on my virtual shelf. Then to get to read it. That immense feeling of satisfaction. I was so happy reading this. So absolutely happy. That’s what I love about this series. It makes me crave more. It makes me want to say “everyone I’m going to need a few minutes, because this book that I am reading. This amazing filthy read, is going to be all I care about for a while.” It didn’t quite work out like that, but I consumed this story quickly and it did not disappoint.

As expected, this story is developing into top notch nasty. James Wolfe, loan wolf, man on a mission, embodies a few qualities that I like in my leading man. He’s unapologetic, he’s guarded, he’s mysterious and most of all he’s totally unabashedly horny. It’s not just reading about sex with him. He is really fucking Red. Ever word just comes to life, I couldn’t help but visualize him

He slides his button-up under my ass and pulls down his boxer-briefs, freeing an enormous, vein-striped, purple-headed fuck machine.

Holy shit! Seriously? I read this alone a couple of times, because I was so amused and appreciative of it’s description. I’ve read a lot, and until now nothing has grabbed my attention more when talking about a man’s anatomy. And this is just a small piece of what has to be some of the best written smut I have come across. There’s one particular scene that caught me so off guard that I wanted to be sure that I was clearly understanding what I was reading, so took active measures to slow down as I took it all in. All I will say is bath tub. Find that chapter. Read it, then read it again.

The story itself is evolving wonderfully too, some important information has come to light and I’m anxious to see how the next piece of the story plays out. Sadly June 16th (anticipated release date) seems so far. I don’t know how long this series is supposed to go on for, but quite honestly at this point, it could never end and I think that I would be happy. Stay on the island forever, I say!

You can pick this book up over at Amazon. It’s a measly 99¢ and worth every penny: Red & Wolfe, Part II: An Erotic Fairy Tale [kindle edition]

Book 2 in the Bend box set selling for $0.99 on Amazon!

This just wasn’t for me at all. From the moment it started, I wasn’t connecting with either of the characters. I tried through all 100+ pages, but most of the time, I just kept wondering when this would end.

This is a prequel to a series and that’s the part that I struggled with. I don’t know how this is going to fit in with those other stories, though there is an allusion  to it (without giving anything away) and honestly I don’t know if I care enough to find out. Well I say that, but really I know that I will want to finish something I started.

One of the problems that I found with this is that it was just trying too hard.  There was a lot of content trying to be squeezed into a short amount of time.  It would have been better if some of the things that turned up, had been saved for another time.

So were the scenes steamy? Meh, they were alright.  I felt like they were cut a little short.  I don’t know if this is the style of JA Huss, I hope not.  I have the Rook & Ronin Omnibus edition in my queue and now I’m a little leery about reading it now.   Maybe UnRaveled ruined me, but it wasn’t the romp I was hoping it would be.

Disappointing all the way around.

Restraint – Erica Chilson

This is Part 1 in the multi story arc “Mistress & Master” Series by Erica Chilson.

Mistress & Master of Restraint series begins with Katya Waters’ Journey of Self-discovery in Restraint.

Katya Waters moves to a new city for the job of her dreams. Her need to explore her darker-side leads her to the club, Restraint, where she meets the mysterious “Boss”. The Boss pulls her into a thrilling game of Kat & Mouse. Follow her exciting journey as she connects the mystery of her past with her thrilling present.

I was not impressed.  First and foremost; it is not a love story in any sense of the word.  That is fine.  I don’t mind that.  It’s more a story of self discovery, acceptance and learning to deal with the harsh shit that life sometimes throws at you.

OK! This book started out fine, pretty good in fact and conceptually, I like this book.  Overall however, it’s terrible.  Is it wrong of me to review this book clearly from a clerical point of view?  I can’t help it, it’s all I thought about the entire time I read the damn thing.

Let’s start with this… upon reading the book description from Amazon it tells you that  it was

*** Freshly edited & expanded*** July 3rd, 2013

By who?  Whoever did it, did an exceptionally poor job and I feel like that’s me being kind.  I at times, had to throw in the odd word here or there, just for things to make sense.  I shouldn’t have to do that, but there I was doing it ever few pages.  There were grammatical errors everywhere and the tone and voice of Katya, at times didn’t match the overall tone of her character.  She threw around the word “ya” when really “you” would have been so much better and fitting.  It didn’t feel like the other characters were running into this problem.  Which was why I was at loss as to why she was so scattered.

What frustrated me the most however,  was that there was a specific event in Katya’s life, the true focus of the story, that was repeatedly told throughout.  I don’t mean a mere mention of either.  It was literally copy and pasted again.  Through out.  While, yes I could understand the overall need for it’s repetition, it just felt like it weighed the book down unnecessarily.  Each time it came about the piece was expanded to shed light on the event. It took up pages.  I ended up skimming those pieces all together, looking only for things that maybe where added to flush out the scene.

It’s a shame really, because like I said conceptually, it’s really good. It’s so totally fucked up. These characters live in a really screwed up bubble, that just works for them. There is no romance here.  Not in the traditional sense at all.  But for this story, it’s okay.  It doesn’t need to be.  I get why there is no love.  I get why there is a need to fix something so horrible.  While the fixing piece is extremely unconventional, who cares.  None of this is real anyway.   Did I pick up this book because I was seeking that HEA.  No I got it because I wanted Dark Erotica.  I like that stuff.

But here’s my problem, it took me a shocking 4 days to get through this.  I wanted to know what was going to happen to these people.  I just didn’t want to be subjected to the massacre of it’s writing.

Now, the writer was nice enough to include a preview of chapter 1 from the second book, Unleashed, into this book.  I did read it (which I don’t typically do).
It did make me want to read the next book  however, I don’t think that I can do it.  Yes, I want to know more.  I do.  So much.  But if I find out that I’ve paid for another book, littered with grammatical woes and discombobulated tone, well, I’ll be really pissed off with myself.  Yeah, I know that I should read a book and enjoy it for it’s story, but at what point does it’s poor editing ruin it for you?  I know I found mine with this.

I can’t even give it a proper review because it’s pissed me off that much.  I’m just going to walk away now.  I’m irritated.  I’ll go read something else.

If you do want to read this book.  Find it here from Amazon it’s selling for $3.99.  Tell me if I’m being unkind?
